His table is littered with open books and notebooks, in his hand is a half-eaten apple. Sitting at a table inside one of the “pods” by the LSC building is a 19-year-old Paradise Valley Community College student named Jason Gallo.

Gallo is a first year student and is majoring in sports nutrition. He was able to take a year off after high school and is now returning to school in hopes of furthering his education. He says he primarily took the year off to think about what he wanted to major in.

“I took a year off because I didn’t know what I wanted to do then I decided I probably should get back in school,” Gallo says.

Originally, Gallo is from Las Vegas, but he came to PVCC to run cross-country. After finishing his studies at PVCC he is debating on whether or not to move back home and attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and further his education there, or stay in Arizona and transfer to Arizona State University.

As he reminisces about his home state, he also remembers a skate boarding trip he took with his father and some friends. During that trip, they traveled from Las Vegas to Southern California and visited skate parks in between.

Gallo says, “Probably that whole week I was happiest.”
